I heard him live play the Rachmaninoff Second Sonata, the Scriabin Fifth Sonata and the Beethoven Apassionata Sonata - all in one sitting! His playing was fiery, passionate, exciting and musical. A really amazing concert. His Mephisto Waltz was incredible. He played the chromatic runs in thirds! His Tchaikovsky Concerto was beautiful. His playing was too flamboyant for American critics, I think, even though the crowd always loved him. But he was very popular in Asia. I think he was a spectacular player, and am sad about the loss.
