sounds like an extremely low price.  What other pianos have you looked at?

Regarding the "low" price, could it be the Bösendorfer "CS" 214?

If that is the price for a regular polished ebony model 214 and the piano is new, run don't walk to the dealer to sign the papers.  :)If it is a 214CS, you're still getting a good deal.

There are other possibilities:

1. onebottlesolution may be posting from Europe where Boesendorfers are generally cheaper than the US.

2. onebottlesolution may be quoting the number in some currency other than the US Dollar.

3. The piano have be defective in some way.

Just a thought.

;D

the price is in us dollars, and it's a brand-new non-CS from a real bosie dealer. even though i never thought i'd actually own a piano this extravagant, and a rational person would not try to fit a piano this size into my living room,  i may just purchase this one.

Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Have the piano checked out by a tech you trust. If the dealer is reputable, he won't mind. If he objects, that tells you something, eh?

Let us know, and best of luck.

Even if this piano is brand new and offered to you at a good price, that doesn't mean it's the best piano for your individual situation. If it doesn't fit the room, it doesn't fit the room. If you're thinking may be you can buy it cheap and then flip it for profit, I doubt it'll work too because had there been a market for such an instrument at a higher price in your area, it would probably have been sold at a higher price (and there is a chance that the dealer can probably offer a few more at this price too if it can offer one to you at this price).

If you really like that piano, great! Otherwise, it's arguable whether it's ever a "good deal" to buy something you don't really like even if you can buy it cheap. $52k~$54k is a lot of money for most folks, and there are many options out there with that kind of budget -- then it becomes a matter of how sure you are that the $52k~$54k Bösie 214 is the indeed the piano you like best for that money.

But with regards to your original question on price range, I think the responses so far should have given you a good indication that the price you were quoted is on the cheap side of the spectrum -- so you're doing great there.

Good luck. :)

lots of good advice here so far.

I haven't seen mention of if you really like this piano, just the great deal.  Bosendorfers are wonderful instruments, but just because they are very expensive, doesn't mean that they are universal in there appeal.

How do you like this piano?  What repertoire did you play on it?  What other pianos did you play and like ( or dislike)?  Why do you think the dealer has to sell this fine piano at such a discount?

you guys don't have to worry about me being in love with the piano. that's the easiest part of all! the only way this thing will get "flipped" in the next 50 years is if i somehow find myself with enough funds (and room) for a 280.
