Video recording
on: July 04, 2005, 07:12:44 AM
Yo, I haven't logged on to this site for a long time and my account seems to have been unregistered??  Well, I'm a newbie again...

Well, my cousin brought his brand new camcorder for my convocation (YEAH!!! DONE SCHOOL)
and finally made some video recordings of myself; 4 pieces:
Bussoni/Bach Chaconne
Liszt Hungarian Rapsody No. 2
Liszt Companella
Rachmaninoff Sonata No. 2

Please download from ftp://64.229.11.69

Also please give me some feedback after you watch it eh, whether you like it or hate it.

are you sure the acces rights are set correctly on your ftp server?

well my begginer opinion doesn't hold much value so i'll just say that : i'm impressed!

btw for your account being unregistered did you re activate it since pianoforum became pianostreet? if not or if you have no clue about what i'm talking about see this thread:

https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,9976.0.html

this basically tells you to sign up but using your old password login & email (this way your pianoforum will be reactivated & merged with your pianostreet account)

Ahh... good morning... sorry just woke up...
for those who cannot get in my site...
several reasons...
1. in order to keep a limited number of people in, there is limited to 5 different machines accessing my server at any one time
2. hmm... well... i think that's it...

for those who only hear sound but gets no video
go to www.divx.com and download divx codec
it was recorded onto a dvd disc originally, but the file is more than a gig each...
divx makes it small

the piano was a steinway (approximately 100 years old)
---------------

there was a much better piano upstairs, that'd be my favorite
everything that i dream of can happen...
but this one is a great piano to practice on, because it's extra-heavy!!

thanks for the comments yall!

WAIT!!  now i'm worried, are there people who CAN see the video??
because there are only people who say they CANNOT see the video??
well, www.divx.com will fix it...
----
ohh... btw, that piano is a school piano
it's like a school's activity center of some kind, (U of Toronto)
that's for non-music students...
music students get to play newer pianos!!
err.... envy envy....

haha... that'd be my parents plus my cousin...
went there after my convocation, so i appeared to be dressed...
my mom was telling my cousin how to take the video...
i've never been video taped b4...
didn't quite know what angle to take...
any suggestions??  for my future reference...
the thing is... the camera stand... that's the highest it can be setup...
so my left hand was a bit blocked...
>_<
but it sure looks cool tho...
playing it myself and watching myself play are totally different feelings...

That hungarian rhapsody sure ate you alive!!! hahaha not quite ready for that one, eh?  Just like me, I see you have a few sticking points to work out.  Also, the rhythm is seriously out of place in a few parts and I am not sure whether or not you are doing it on purpose.  I am not sure if my eyes are deceiving me, but it seems like you are cheating in the friska part with the grace notes in the right hand.  are you really playing all three grace notes before the melody note?  However, I did like the little octave fun you added in the entrance to the tempo guisto part.  You stopped in a number of places, but surprisingly you managed the A major and F sharp major scales, which I find are the most difficult passages in the piece, when I play it.

Maybe I can record myself playing and we can exchange ideas.  How does that sound?  Did you write a cadenza for the end?

i really envy those of you who started learning piano in a young age...
i've always loved piano and i did started playing since i was little...
but the first time i took a lesson was when i was in grade 7... (13 years old??)
had 3 teachers over the years until i finished grade 12 (18 years old??)
then i was on my own again
left my town (vancouver) for university of toronto
major in electrical engineernig...
always dream of playing something professionally
it's a dream that will never happen...
---
my learning process is... if i watch someone play, i know that piece is possible (i need to "see" it happen to believe)
then i'll start, once i get the idea i jump to the next piece that inspire me...
(i don't polish it because i'm not able to, i don't have the "correct" foundations, that's why you'd see me use some weird fingering in many places that normal people wouldn't)
the comforting thing is, whatever i play, the "idea" is always there...

to donjuan:

haha... thanx for the comments,
but please don't laugh at me when i say this ok...
things you see i do when i play, whether it's something that's not supposed to be there, or something that's very nice to be there, or something that's not there....
i probably didn't mean to do it or not do it....
that's hmm.... ability limitation....
rythm.... can't count well.... i should be able to for this kind of piece tho....
but in slow movements or say beethove/mozart sonatas
i can't count, because i can't read music like that...
that's why i'm very limited to romantec stuff...
my favorite is liszt/rachmaninoff (well, i play the most of them)
the music hmm.... makes sense...
20th century / contemporary, i definitely can't read that kinda music...
too many notes is acceptable for me....
but too many weirdly-placed notes .... hoooo.... i'd say bye bye music...

That FTP is working fine right now...perhaps it's your web browser?
