Share your weird experiences/coincidences

for example

the other night I had a dream that a random boy showed me a video of Ray Charles playing in concert, and playing the song ''House of the Rising Sun'' - I have never ever heard this song before in my life but later that day when I went to a restaurant to eat with my family it came on.... quite coincidental! ;)

Last week I went to a 6-day thing (called Summer Scholars Academy) at a college, and the head counselor was a piano performance major graduate. He told me he also played viola (as I do also), and it turned out he took lessons from my current viola teacher years ago. My teacher moved hear about 6 years ago, so it's quite coincidental that where he used to live he gave lessons to that counselor of mine.

Plus, it's rare enough finding another pianist/violist out there.

When I was in my early teens, I was working pretty hard on my own and not sure what to do next.  I went with a girlfriend who was auditioning for some vocal thing.  She went in to her audition and I stayed in the waiting lounge.  This old man dressed like a farmer in overalls and dirty work boots sort of came out of nowhere-- I mean, I didn't see him walk in (or out) and he was suddenly standing in front of me.  He said, "Whatever you do, keep playing."

The event was only for singers, so he would have no reason to guess that I played anything.  He didn't know me-- I'm from a really (really) small town, and this event was in a big city some distance from home; we were all strangers.  Well, that's my story.

well, when i really didn't know what i was doing (2nd year of bachelor's) the vocal coach called me 'maestro.'  it may have been sincere, but probably a ploy to get me to play a lot for free and make me think i was good.

now, the more i have learned, the more i want to just go in a corner and play for myself.  the strangest thing that has happened to me?  ever since i was little i was convinced i was going to be a concert pianist.  noone ever told me, i think you should be a concert pianist, anything like that.  i was complimented on my playing once in a while, but no genius.  you'd think after years of lessons, i would just acknowledge that maybe it was not my calling.  (won no major competitions)  well, psychotic i must be...  convinced every time i sit at a piano, that i am destined for the stage and sure that i am playing a piano concerto somewhere in the next few years.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

I've always enjoyed "Music C" in the original gameboy version of Tetris. Its a lovely little two voice baroque piece.

A couple of years ago, I decided to transcribe this piece by ear to sheet music so I could learn it. It was a very painstaking process, and I didn't know how to properly place stems on notes or even which stave they should reside in. But I eventually got the whole thing down, and learned it.

Three days later, I went to the library seeking out books on baroque counterpoint (just for the hell of it).

I grabbed the first book my hand landed on, called "Counterpoint in the Style of J.S. Bach".

its around 400 pages long.

I flipped it open and the first thing I saw was the very piece I had transcribed.

Its the minuet from Bach's french suite in B minor! Thats the most amazing coincidence that has happened to me with piano music. Remember I had no idea the little tetris piece was by Bach!

details: the tetris piece lacks one of the sections of the original piece, and is a fourth lower than the original.

Holy cow! This is the best one yet! (Mainly because I've always loved Music C, too)

As soon as I get home I'm going to go play the French Suite! Yay!
