Short Virtuostic pieces
on: July 08, 2005, 10:33:11 AM
Looking for a concert closer that is anywhere from 1 to 4 minutes
Preferably composed during the 20th century, or 21 for that matter :)
Any suggestions

PS already used the search option and had no luck

Thanks in advance ;D

Prokofiev Suggestion Diabolique fits the bill

Poulenc Presto, Improvisations are great too

Liszts first TE etude

EDIT: Missed the thing about 20th century

I'd go with some Scribain preludes like Op11/6 Op11/14 or number 3

20th century: Scriabin Prelude Op 11 num 14
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

I was just going to suggest the Shostakovich preludes (Op.34, not from the preludes and fugues Op.87) - particularly good as concert closers/encores might be No.5 in D major or No.9 in E major, or, if you'd prefer something in a minor key, perhaps No.6 in B minor or No.20 in C minor.

true don't play Op. 87 unless you play the fugue also.

Scriabin Prelude Op. 11 No. 14, Prokofiev's Le Suggestion Diabolique, or Khachaturian's Saber Dance (not entirely virtuosic, but fast (presto), with a very famous theme, and very fun to play) .

Prelude #6 from Robert Muczynski (how the heck do you spell his name)
(Six preludes op.6)

Really Really cool, and not too hard, (sounds harder than it is)

Hope you like octaves, hell-raising, and jabbing stabbing "bloody knife" accents.

this is not a "cute" song, but it is quite short and really leaves an impression!!

Ditto on the Grand Gallop Chromatique!  It cant get much better than that.  Short, extremely virtuosic, but not 20th cent....
