Alleged TITLES of Chopin's Preludes
on: July 10, 2005, 08:38:03 PM
These are two set of titles for Chopin's 24 Preludes, Op.28.  NOT that I agree with such hasty labels (as Chopin did not create it) but they still seem to "fit" with the nature of each prelude, musically speaking.

These are two sets of titles.  The first is given by Von Bulow; the second, I don't know - anyone who knows?  Anyway, the first set is more commonly used.

SET 1

No.1 Reunion
No.2 Presentiment of Death
No.3 Thou Art so Like a Flower
No.4 Suffocation
No.5 Uncertainty
No.6 Tolling Bells
No.7 The Polish Dance
No.8 Desperation
No.9 Vision
No.10 The Night Moth
No.11 Dragon Fly
No.12 Duel
No.13 Loss
No.14 Fear
No.15 Raindrop
No.16 Hades
No.17 A Scene on the Place de Notre Dame de Paris
No.18 Suicide
No.19 Heartfelt Happiness
No.20 Funeral March
No.21 Sunday
No.22 Impatience
No.23 A Pleasure Boat
No.24 The Storm

SET 2:

1. Feverish Yearning for the Beloved
2. Sorrowful Meditation: The Sea Deserted and Afar
3. The Brooklet's Song
4. On a Tomb
5. The Tree Full of Songs
6. Homesick
7. Delightful Remembrances Float Like Like a Perfume Across the ...
8. Snow Falls, The Wind Howls, The Tempest Rages; But in My Sad Heart...
9. Prophetic Voices
10. Rockets Which Fall Back to Earth
11. Young Girl's Desire
12. Night Ride
13. In a Strange Land, Under a Starry Sky, Thinking of the Beloved Afar
14. Stormy Sea
15. But Death is There, In the Shadow...
16. Journey into the Abyss
17. She Said to Me 'I Love You'
18. Curses
19. Wings, to Fly to You My Dearest!
20. Obsequies
21. Solitary Return to the Place of Avowal
22. Revolt
23. Naiad's Playing
24. Of Blood, Pleasure and Death

It seems there is a greater sonority in the titles in the 2nd set.

I know the first set. They are written as that at https://www.classicalarchives.com/chopin.html

I don't know whether they are widely used or not, but i don't think so. Only the Raindrop (no.15) has its name and is known by it.

But, they totally fit the music and they give it another beautiful dimension that makes any listener to them feel the music much more
