Women and the Chopin Competition: Breaking Barriers in Classical Music

The piano, a sleek monument of polished wood and ivory keys, holds a curious, often paradoxical, position in music history, especially for women. While offering a crucial outlet for female expression in societies where opportunities were often limited, it also became a stage for complex gender dynamics, sometimes subtle, sometimes stark. From drawing-room whispers in the 19th century to the thunderous applause of today’s concert halls, the story of women and the piano is a narrative woven with threads of remarkable progress and stubbornly persistent challenges. If it's in your price range, try and go for a Henle edition. Generally, I'd avoid Schirmer, but I'd have to see who the editor is for this. If it's gonna be a collection of Mozart concerti, and the book is thick, I'd definitely stay away from Schirmer. It won't stay open and you'll break the binding trying to make it.

The Schirmer I'm talking about is edited by Hans Bischoff

Also, it's just the No. 21 concerto, and only 55 pages -- no problems with binding there!
And listed at $7.95, that shouldn't be a price issue.
