Petrof
on: July 07, 2003, 04:06:47 AM
Hi, all
I am currently looking for an upright piano. I've looked into Petrof, Kawai, and Yamaha, but I think I like Petrof. Does anyone have any experiences with Petrof uprights?

hi peggy I'm using a petrof upright right now, about maybe 5 yrs or more now
well I heard petrof's handmade, or at least mine is, so newayz here's my opinions about my petrof upright:
It's bad. Well not that bad, but it's just that the sound of it is neither clear or rich. And I'm guessing mine is an upright console since it's taller than the shorter ones (haha yes nice description) but it still lacks some bit of tonal quality.
Response isn't very good either, sometimes my keys don't bounce up quick enough when I'm doing trills. And another thing, well it's probably because I haven't regulated my Petrof for such a long time but the keys are stiff. And petrofs are a real b**** to tune, well at least thats what my tuner said
compared to yamaha
Anyways my advice is to get yamaha, but hey if you find that petrof upright a whole lot better than yamaha, then go for it, cuz you'll be stuck with it for a long time (unless you're that heaped with cash
)

Odd. My piano technician highly recommends Petrof uprights. Having the piano thoroughly voiced, regulated, etc. is critical to any piano. I wonder whether we're comparing an entry level Petrof to a finer model? Would there be a difference? I don't know.

I don't know what the problem is with NetherMagic's piano.
I had a 50'' Petrof upright for over a year. It is still remembered as one of the best uprights I have had. it had a great tone a nd touch. There have been many changes to the new Petrofs and they are getting better and better. I strongly recommend that you get the Petrof over Yamaha or Kawai. I would urge you to steer clear of Kawais if your new piano will be getting heavy usage.

I have a Petrof upright. I love it. It's my best friend. I'm a sad pianogeek loner ^_~
Seriously though ... I've never had any problems (although the sustaining pedal's a bit weird, but that's another story ...) And I've been told it's a good make ... I was going to sell it but was advised not to. But hey, I'm not an expert on makes by any stretch of the imagination, even though I have a bit of an obsession with sparkly shiny Steinways ...
.. but let's face it, who doesn't?
