notation software question -- auto part writing?
on: July 14, 2005, 01:09:53 AM
I want to input a single line (SATB any one) and the chords and then have the computer write it out in harmony, three or four part.  Is this possible?  Does anyone know how to do this on Finale or Sibelius?

hmmm you'd probably have to try find a custom plugin for that. or make one.

though it'd be hard... definately easier by yourself. Say for example, one of your parts has a rest, so your chord is 3 notes... but which part is taking the break? the computer wouldn't know.

Rest are not a worry.  I can always rearrange things later.

I've heard something like this is already possible.  I just don't know how to do it.  I want to put in the line and the chord letters and have the computer write it out for me.

Sibelius (3) has an arrange feature. You just specify an 'arrange style' that has the range of each instrument (voice) and the max. number of voices per staff etc.
