45 min recital - Comments please
on: July 15, 2005, 02:46:19 PM
I've been asked to give a 45 min recital in early August.  Thinkin of

Liszt            Liebestraume No 3
                   Petrarch Sonnet No 47
                   Petrarch Sonnet No 104
                   Petrarch Sonnet No 123

Schumann   Papillons, Op 2

Comments please?

Many thanks,

Chris

I've played Papillons at a recital. It's a great choice if you're not scared of a piece with so many parts (I am). :)

It's not a long recital, and I wanted it to be cohesive.  I think in so short a time, I'd rather keep to a small showcase of fewer composers.  Also as I only have a coupla weeks, I don't want to be panicking over piles of new repertoire (Papillons and Liebestraume are already new to me, and the Petrarch's I haven't performed for 2 years!)

Papillons is cute ^^  Honestly I think it's a very nice recital that could be appreciated by a general or musical audience =)

I think your right about trying to have it cohesive for a short recital.

I had a 45 minute recital recently. At first I tried to having all the bases covered, but I ended up selecting a few composers to center on and that worked much better

Why not put in a short Bach piece for variety? and in the Liszt, have you done the Rigolleto Paraphrase? that would sound nice. btw for a slightly longer recital, why not a beethoven or mozart variation?
You either do or do not. There is no try- Yoda

Sounds a good idea to me and Schumann and Liszt are often paired together for obvious reasons so I think in terms of programming you would get away with it. I am in a similar dilema myself but as i hope to take an LRSM with the repertoire im looking at it is awkward as they ask for a balanced recital programme so dont think i could do the whole romantic programme thing (see my most recent thread!) But All the best with your programme - Good Luck! Break a finger  ;)
