a man, who works in the engine of this big ship finds a baby one day, and decides to name him after the year he was born (1900), the boy grows up and somehow learns to play the piano, although we are never showed how(i guess we are supposed to assume he learnt it himself).
so this legendary pianist(he plays jazz), who grew up on a ship, has the opportunity to leave the ship and become a famous pianist, but the ship is his home and has always been his home...he never leaves.
i recommend it, especially for the duel scene where he competes against the no1 jazz pianist in the world, and slaughters him.
the famous pianist lights a cigarette and puts it on the piano, and plays the whole piece before the cigarette burns out.
1900 takes a cigarette and doesnt light it, puts it on the piano, and plays an impossibly virtuosic piece(its obviously a 4 hand piece) and then stops, stands, and places the cigarette on the piano strings and it lights, he then goes over the the famous pianist (who had mocked him and refused to shake 1900s hand) and puts the cigarette in the pianists mouth saying 'you smoke it, i dont know how'
its a really good movie
