Topic: Schubert Impromptu Op.90 Nr.2 (Read 3709 times)

Hi all.

Though I already played Schuberts Impromptus Op. 90 Nr.3+4, I found myself having problems with the interpreting of Nr.2.

I'm wondering, since Nr.3 and 4 can be thought of as a dialogue between the human being and destiny, what this Impromptu is all about.

To me it seems to be of 'rising action' - some serious amazement in the first part, but rising anger in the middle..

Telling me how you feel about that piece might be very helpful - so thanks a lot!

well, I think in the first section, you'll want to keep it as light and dolce as possible, but always pay mind to foreshadow what's to come; and I think this can be attained by agitating the bass rhythm wherever needed. In the middle section, just promise me one thing: Don't make it 'heroic!' Always try to depict the scene as honestly as possible - then you should find that Shubert is actually losing the battle here. If you play it as such, then you'll be rewarded not only by a greater intensity in this middle section, but also a greater poignancy in the outer movements.

Hm, agitating the bass rhythm - I thought of that as a possible way, too. Foreshadowing - that's what I didn't do. I'll give it a try (and I promise to not play the middle part heroic
