note clarification on raindrop prelude
on: July 20, 2005, 12:36:20 AM
ok, so I started reworking on the raindrop tonight. I seem to have misplaced my sheet music from before, therefore I used the sheetmusicarchive.net version. Well, I got to measure 72 and have a question. what notes do you have in the RH. I play it, but it doesn't sound too familiar to me at all. I have D# F# G# as half notes over repeated G#. If you could look up your editions and see if this is indeed the chord that needs to be played, I would grately appreciate it.

Yes, it is D#, F#, G#.
What is going on here is a return from the tonicization in the previous measure (f# minor) back to c# minor. This chord is a V

, a dominant seventh in first inversion. The next chord is back to tonic, but sets up a suspension (the reason for the F# staying put).

ok thanks for the clarification. It didn't sound familiar, so I thought it may have been a sucky edition. Thanks again.
