i personally don't know that much about it, but would be inclined to say 'leave this to the performer!'  but, for beginning students, maybe there would be some help to it?  are there other web sites that explain it in more detail?
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.
