Pedaling in Ondine
on: July 28, 2005, 09:42:44 PM
um.... this is the Ondine from Gespard.  I was just wondering how much pedal i should use in that first section and others like it.  it seems to sound more serene the more you use, but then it also starts to sound a bit muddled at the same time.  what do you guys think?

In the beginning, I think it sounds best whenever the accompiement figure sounds slightly muddled, yet the melody comes out clear on top.  This might require some flutter pedaling or half-pedaling of some sort.

As with most Ravellian light-effects, depress the damper just enough to get a shimmer.

BTW, why do you spell it "Gespard?"
