I see many different names here on this forum. Some funny, some stupid, some just wonderfully uncanny.Well what about mine? Frederic? No it's not my real name. Just some pointless tribute to the master. Now it's your turn. Cough up
"Alzado" is a Portuguese word. My wife is Brazilian, and when she gets mad at me, she sometimes calls me that.I think it means something like "smart alec" or "wise guy."I used to be "glyptodont" but after the changeover of the forum a couple of weeks ago, I simply could not get on under my established handle. I tried and tried. Finally, there was nothing else to do but re-register. Glyptodont, which is my name on a different board, is a prehistoric armadillo about the size of a Volkswagen beetle.
Bernhard--You know, I have wondered that for almost 30 years-- I tried to spell the word as I hear her say it. It could be an "o" instead of an "a", and an "s" instead of a "z." In fact, we actually pronounce it with an "s" sound instead of a "z."So ousado might be right. Really, as best she can explain what it means, it can be applied to a precocious child."Daring", you say? Perhaps stretch that to mean "audacious" -- or, in common parlance, "a handful"? Or even with a suggestion of our slang word, "brassy"?The way she uses the term is not very complimentary. She does not have much formal education, so to expect her to spell it accurately -- probably not.I think you may have hit it, although in the "giria" (street language) of Brazil, I suspect the word has other overtones such as I've outlined above. It appears you know Portuguese pretty well.
My name? A tribute to llamas. Mmm....llamas.
Schumann fans (or simply those who can read German) will know what Waldszenen means.
It means Forest Scenes, Scenes of the woods, or whatever you prefer. der Wald (der since it is singular) = woods, forest die szenen (die-plural)= scenes.Very creative and impressionist name.Mario Barbosa.
Wow, funny to see something german in this forum *wonders if pianoforum.de exists*
I took my name from a Story I had to read during the Grade ten literacy test about Native Americans. And also according to my friend, the inventor of maple syrup's name is Nanabush but I'm positive it isn't...
