Fingering in Op.10 no.12
on: July 29, 2005, 01:20:31 PM
Hi,
I had a small question concerning the fingering in the chord in bar 3 (D, F, G, D)..
I have finished most of it but i am having some troubles getting the notes right in this chord.
My teacher says i should play it with fingers 1 2 3 5 but i find that a bit awkward coz if i play it like that i will have to rotate my RH to the right a bit. (just try it...). I suggest playing it with fingers 1 2 5 with the 2 pressing on the F and G together like the next chord (F G D F) where it is played with 1 2 5 with the thumb playing the F and G.
Advice please.

Hi.
I would stick to the fingering that your teacher provided for you. using 1 2 5 doesn't seem to be secure because you might miss the G key in the chord at least that's what happened to me when i tried it you way. Also there's really much of a difference between your method and 1 2 3 5, so it should require the same kind of switch.
Also you should try using 1 1 3 5 with the next chord
good luck

I had another couple of fingering questions in this Etude.
1. In the begining of the third page, you find in the begining of the third and fifth bars similar chords that only differs in the highest note (F and G). The issue is these chords should be played so fast and energico as chopin wants. To get the fingers exactly right in both times, should i use different fingering for each chord?? In this case the F G D F played with 1 1 2 4 and the F G D G played with 1 1 2 5 or what ??
2. Then, at the part where the main theme is repeated twice near the end of the third page, the bar that starts with the chord G C G (4th bar from the end). I need fingering for these chords (F C F, G C F, E C E) so that they are played fast and LEGATO. If i play all of them with 1 2 5 they won't sound legato at all.
BTW, here i am referencing the score at
https://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/compositions_b/et10_12.pdf
coz there are many editions.

for
1. use 1 2 45 for the first chord - its easier than it seem with practice
as for the second chord - didnt even notice that one note difference (thanks)
but it looks like you can either do 1245 or 1 1 3 5 - 1135 seems easier due to the stretch
2. as for the chords
notice how the middle note is C in each case
just use 2 to play the C
and 1 5 to play the outside notes
dont know why the sheet suggests using 3 when 2 is much easier to rotate with
at least for self
