Geirr Tveitt
on: July 30, 2005, 08:30:41 AM
oh
my
god

this guy is great.  has anyone here even heard of him?  you guys HAVE to hear his piano concerti.  I can send recordings if you want.  They are truely incredible.  They seem to have the heartbreaking sensitivity of the Chopin 1 Romanza and the power of something like the Rach 3 at the same time.  It's really incredible.  You guys have GOT to go listen.  Particularly the Lento from the first concerto.  man......... I can't describe how great his 5 piano concerti are.  just please IM me so i can send one to you.

i like them alot too, did you hear about what happened to his music? one of the saddest stories in music....about 10 years before he died, he lost almost all of his compositions in a fire...lets hope the surviving ones were the best...

I love the music of Geirr Tveitt. And by the way there are many norwegian composers from the 20th century that are unknown but great. Foremost Sćverud and Valen.
Unlike many other 20th century music, his music is very accesible(don`t get me wrong I like Xenakis) so that even those who will find Prokofiev difficult to listen to can appreciate his music. All of his works that I have listened to are great 1st piano concerto, 4 piano concerto, 5 piano concerto, variation for 2 pianos and orchestra and the sonata etere.
He wrote more than 30 piano sonatas and only one is left ???

Tveitt is one of the great piano composers of the 20th century; I think he and other "tonal"composers were supressed by the 12 tone cabals >:( >:( >:( (you will all soon know how I really feel about that)>:(and now is coming into his own; I have the score to his Fifty Folk Tunes from Hardanger op.150. Ove Andsnes has recorded several of them. I want more solo Tveitt! :P The Concertos are very beautiful pieces, I have a couple on CD, includind #4, "Aurora Borealis" for two pianos.

The fire was obviously a great tragedy :'(

hahhahah first of you show your ignorance because you have never heard of Geirr Tveitt at the same time as you are norwegian. Second you are basicly saying that all of the 5(maybe 6. tough no manuscript is ever found) exists today. No2 and 3 are lost. But there are a recording by the pianists himself of no 3 coupled with the sonata etere no29( he wrote 32 but all are lost exept this one).

I might consider to upload the 4th and 5th piano concerto.
