Buying WILH. STEINBERG
on: August 02, 2005, 07:09:58 AM
hi guys!

Anyone heard of Wilh. Steinberg pianos?
I'm thinking of buying an upright.
Need to listen to some opinions before i decide to really buy it.

Cheers!

WILH. Steinberg are fine, high quality German uprights. Workmanship is 1st rate.  To me  the feel of the actions are about medium weight, which I like.  The tone in the treble is clear, bell like and the bass in the 52" Steinberg I played was quite powerful.   Overall I could be very happy with this instrument.

Hi Kenneth,
I'm from Singapore too, and am interested in looking at Wilhelm Steinberg. May I know which dealer here carries this brand?

Hi Wzkit,

Only Chew Piano sells this brand. It's at Thompson Plaza.
Apparently, i have made do with a second hand Yamaha, U3.
Thought that it's more economical afterall, as i would still like to invest in a grand in time to come. So probably could save up more first before buying the grand. Eyeing for Shigeru Kawai - Heard that it's really something :) But let me complete my Fellowship first :p
But seriously, i would think that if you are staying in a HDB flat, WILH. Steinberg would be relatively ideal, as i would say that it does not sound "noisy" and it has a very warm tone. Whether it's being tropicalised, that i would not be too sure. Probably you can check out with the dealer.

Cheers!

Tried the Whil. Steinberg at Chiu Pianos a few weeks ago. Really nice upright! Too bad I'm in a market for a grand, not an upright. The baby grand I tried was not bad, but not as impressive as the Shigeru SK-3 I was eyeing. Which Shigeru model are you looking at? I'm looking at a SK-5. Haven't had a chance to try it yet. One thing though...don't expect the bell like treble that you get on the Steinberg, on the SK-3....
