Having a bit of treble with leger lines.
on: August 03, 2005, 01:58:44 AM
First of all, I just started using Finale 2005 today so forgive my naive question. I imported a midi file which I created in another app into Finale hoping that it would be automatically notated for me. Well, this seemed to go okay but I noticed something kind of strange. (I'm a beginner musician too and I'm just now learning notation so this may be part of the problem.) Anyway, I noticed that Finale seems to notate notes higher than E3 on ledger lines below the treble clef as opposed to notating them on the bass clef. For example, Finale placed an F3 from the midi file I imported on the third leger line below the treble clef. I thought that an F3 was supposed to be notated on
the second line down on the bass clef. Does anyone know why this might be? P.S.- I know that this question may be better suited for a Finale forum but I've already posted there and recieved no replies.

Finale is a bit flawed when it comes to opening midi files. From what little I know about it, midi files are often recorded from someone's keyboard, so the "note values" are often not in perfectly subdivided intervals such as what is necessary for sheet music. Finale then must make approximations, and so whenever you open a midi file in Finale the results are often hideous, and that includes problems like the ones you mentioned. I am no expert on Finale and know no way around this other than to find some sheet music of the piece you are trying to open and click it in yourself. If it's one of your own pieces you may just have to re-create it from scratch. That probably didn't help. lol
