anyone who praises God with music will be praised back.  king david made it his own desire to use music for psalms and praises.  this music, to me, is the greatest form of music.  it is not for virtuosity's sake, but often is spiritually virtuosic, in that the angels sing with it.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

If those were angels singing at my Son's nativity I'm going elsewhere :)

your son?  how about God's son.  the angels that sang then were a heavenly host, and they must have sounded pretty good.  don't bash something you haven't heard.  of course, i haven't heard them yet either, so we're even.

Which one? Baldur, Hod, Hermoth, Thor or Vidar?

Good one, but...
A pox upon you for even mentioning his name. ;)

May you suddenly find yourself in a dream where you have front row seats at every concert that he has played or ever will play for eternity and ten thousand years after that.

He even dedicates his most gushy songs to you night after night and asks you to get up on stage to play piano in his band.

In your dream, you want to run away and you can't because all the audience is in a state of everlasting admiration for him and they won't let you go.  :o

There, do you feel sorry now? :)

Cheers

I agree profoundly. I think that God gives each one of us one or more talents to serve his kingdom. And why not use the technique in classical music to play hymnals and praise the Lord? It won't hurt me. In fact, I believe that praying before my piano practice so that the Lord can bless my work is great, there is no warm-up better than this (I believe that this was one of Bach's secrets for composing ;D). I had my first experience with playing gospel music while worship in church this Wednesday (before I just practiced it, but the pastor's wife was not there to lead the music ministry).  It is just a great feeling of joy, using the piano to serve God's Kingdom. Many people joke that Bach is the "God" of music, but no, I believe he was just guided by God, giving us a fake impression.  ;)

I hate having pox' put on me.  Now I am afraid to go to sleep, for fear the torment worse then eternal damnation you wished upon me were even a smidgen of reality.  My only recourse is a reverse pox.

May you wake up everyday, in the manner of the movie groundhog day, in the Tchaikovsky competition.  You have Yanni's mustache, Kissin's hair, Emanuel Ax's build, Zoltan Kocsis' fingers and the virtuosity of Maestro Billy Joel. For you opening piece you hammer out the opening measures of Fur elise, followed by the Music Box Dancer and finish up with the transcendental study...The Hill Street Blues Theme.  You somehow win and tour every major venue in the world and can only seem to pound out the same tunes everywhere you go, except for the addition of you encore......The Pink Panther.  You bring shame to the world of classical music, and we start a thread about you on Piano Forum, and of course half of us think your playing is crap and the other half love you and think you are underrated!   ;D  ;D  ;D

a reverse pox, huh!  that's too funny.  i will admit that either extreme would be scary.  in one you have semi-repetitive finger jamming, and the other a really scary repertoire.  i'd prefer a little of both, as barbosa said - maybe some hymnal, gospel, and classical combined.  God can be praised in many ways.  i think that it doesn't really matter to him as long as we are trying to make music and not just noise.  of course, as barbosa said, if we are given a 'talent' then we should try to make the best music possible that we can for Him.  i have also found inspiration in prayer, although the most inspiring music i've heard has not been piano alone.  usually it is with a very large choir and hearing words set to music.

someone told me (a week) ago, that if God is so great, He must not need praise.  But, i told him that even as parents, we like our children to appreciate us.  He seemed to agree.  I think it's the same with God.  God appreciates even our smallest gestures because we are important to him.  He could, after all, simply obliterate us and start over again (as at the time of noah) but He is exceedingly patient and wants 'for all to come to the knowledge of the truth.'  His Son is our hope.  We have no other.

Yes, but most parents are ordinary human beings the same as the children. Any that saw a connection between themselves as parents and some kind of God lording over them might want and like to be appreciated, but are unlikely to be.

Ouch!!! :'(  I totally forgot about the reverse pox defence. Yanni's moustache!!! omg. I especially hated the part about Music Box Dancer the most. ;)

Anyone else out there would like to take a shot. ;D

free is good.  water should be free too.

btw, i happen to believe that parents have a right to honor.  just as God does.  after all, we are in His image.  and, if we learn to honor our parents, it's much easier to honor God.

lots of old fashioned stuff.  but, you're right!  you can't demand it.  it is freely given.  if you don't get it, you're probably doing something wrong.  i find myself often apologizing to my children over things that i don't do perfectly.  if we still have a good relationship when they are grown, i will feel good.  i don't think it's JUST praise.  it's the whole package.  do they really love and appreciate you or are they just saying it.  thankfully, my kids use it sparingly  so i know when it's meant.  although the three year old just dishes it out right and left.  'mommy, i love you.'  maybe that's why God says that He'd like it if we became just like little children.

you make me laugh more than i have in years.  of course, at my age, that could be dangerous.  between this thread and the 'word association' thread, i think i'll close my case tonight.  yes, life is a rip off.  you can't even be born for free.  what really gets me is homeowners associations.  you buy a house thinking it's yours.  then you get these wierd letters telling you you might be fined if you leave your trash container on the sidewalk too long, the toys in the yard, or whatever.  you give them the money they request, yet they keep sending threatening letters saying that if you ever decide not to pay, they will fine you x amount and put roasted marshmallows in your hair.  how much nicer can greedy people be?

those associations are a trip. everyone has to conform. I have a friend who builds hot rods. He was in the process of building one in his BACKYARD BEHIND A FENCE. Well, the association thought it was just a pile of crap (it was still in the beginning stages of being built). So one day when he was not home the association came and towed the thing away. They used the excuse that they had the right because he violated the rules by having a non-working vehicle in his yard for too long. needless to say my friend was pissed. He had already spent thousands on the car. oh yeah he sued.

typically, i'm not for suing, but to me, that's legitimate.  it's your own property, and besides, it wasn't bothering the neighbors since he had a fence.   that is invading your space.

You are just trying to change the subject because you are a closet Tesh fan.  I remember before you changed your screen name it was Johnberian Teshky.  You had a website where you posted your own Tesh variations.  I logged on the John Tesh fan club website and there were 58,000 posts from a Siberian Husky, I remember one said...."Chopin....Shmopin, Tesh is the king of the romantic period."  I even saw you at the Argerich concert where you hollered during her encore, "Lets here some Tesh!.. ;D
