My inability to finish one piece before starting another continues.

I am enjoying a transcription of the "harmonious blacksmith" by Hans von Bulow.

Liszt sonata.... Finished it, but just getting ready to perform it.

Chopin op10 complete. Starting this in January (2 days), my aim is to finish all opus 10 by july, and then op25 by December. I've done a lot of the big ones in the past, so hopefully won't be as daunting as it seems. I'm more worried about op25 because it has that 6ths etude! I don't like 6ths!

A few other stuff as well, just some classical sonatas, Bach Partita no 2, and some contempory stuff. My teacher bombards me with new pieces to learn on the side from big projects.

D00d, those are all easy if you practice the slowly for 10 minutes before speeding them up to concert tempo. I would know - i performed the Bramms at my churche rectal.  :)

@Kassaa: Heh, though to be fair to myself I'm actually in the process of becoming a fairly decent pianist. ;)

I'm now currently learning:

Appasionata
Rachmaninoff Sonata no.2 ( I'm gonna be learning this for a long time)
Rachmaninoff etude tableax op.33 no.2
Chopin Waltz i forget the opus number lol

Im thinking about taking a go at Scriabin sonata no.9

I think I'm almost done with sposalizio, I'm just playing it a lot now so I can try to polish small mistakes and improve pedalling

I'm still not even halfway through Rach's etude op39 no5, I think I'll still stay with that one for quite a bit of time.

I'm going to start turning my attention to Mendelssohn's songs w/o words, I'll try to finish up op 53 no3 that's been neglected since I was enthralled with sposalizio. I'm also going to start working on op 67 no1, I figure a quiet and calm song will help me keep my sanity while learning the Rachmaninov etude. :D

I like Beethoven Op. 2 sonatas, and they're not really heard all too often- have considered them?
Considered the Sorabji Transcription of the Fantasia from the Fantasia Chromatica e fuga?

How rough is Feux Follets?  It's more like a Chopin etude in the fact that study develops technique rather than merely requiring it, right?

Thanks,

Daniel

Sorabji would kill me. :p (I'll look into it, thanks!)

Yeah... I was actually thinking about studying Chopin's op.10/2 and op.25/6 in preperation for Feux Follets, but I went on anyways.

I can now see why people say it is so difficult.  I still love the peice... it's going to take a while.  After (or rather, if) I master it I won't have to worry about double notes (hopefully.)  I don't have a deadline for anything (cept the Scarlatti and the Gounod/Liszt) so I can afford to work on it slowly.  It's really great, though.  It makes your hand get all confused... it's always fun to challenge the living crap out of yourself.  ;)

I'll look at the Beethoven sonatas too.  Or maybe I'll wait... I do not know.

So I'm polishing the Mephisto Waltz, and I have a few questions/concerns.

First of all, on page 17, I have trouble with the left hand while the right hand moves in arpeggios up and down the keys. I can't seem to get both hands working together properly. This is the same problem I had with Chopin's Scherzo No. 2, when the left hand does those octaves while the right hand moves up and down in arpeggios. Same thing.

Second of all, on page 18, I have trouble with the section halfway through the page. I can't work it up to speed!

Third, my right hand has trouble on page 21 during the turn-around of the run. Should I lift the hand before turning around? Or try to make it fluid?

Last, during the alternating hands run on page 22, does anyone have a suggestion for how to practice this? I can't really get the pattern.

Thanks everyone!
My favorite piano pieces - Liszt Sonata in B minor, Beethoven's Hammerklavier, Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit, Alkan's Op. 39 Etudes, Scriabin's Sonata-Fantaisie, Godowsky's Passacaglia in B minor.

Polishing:

Chopin: 10-6, 9-1, Noct. 20 p.h., some preludes
Rach.: 3-2, 32-12
Beethoven: Pathetique 1st mvt.
Brahms 79-2

Practicing:

Beethoven: Pathetique 2nd and 3rd mvts.
Chopin: Ballade No1 (working hard on the presto con fuoco)

Dreaming of (long term projects):

Chopin 10-12 (work will begin soon), 10-9, 25-10,11 and 12 and maybe one day the whole two sets   ;)
Appassionata
Op. 111
Kreisleriana
Rach. 33-4, 23-5, 39-5 , 32-10
Chopin Scherzi 2&3
Gaspard (very, very long term project :-) )

Very much standard repertoire i guess, but beautiful pieces anyway. If i look at my list i find there is no Bach. Think i'll include some within the next months and maybe add some Liszt to the long term list.

Still on Rach etude op39 no5
Adding Poulenc Toccata from the "Trois Pieces"

Trying to focus my efforts on those two
When I have the time I also try to bring Mendelssohn's S w/o W op53 no 3 up to speed
Also playing op67no1
Chopin Waltzes op 69 no1 and op 34 no2
and Liszt's sposalizio from time to time

Was also trying to start on Liszt's HR5 but I gave up on it, unless I finish either rach or poulenc I don't have nearly enough time... I'll be saving it for later :-[
I am perfectly normal, it is everyone else who is strange.
