see odd pianos
on: August 08, 2005, 10:44:25 PM

www.pianoworld.com/fun/oddpianos.htm

you can see among other things double ended grands, the world's largest piano (11'8"), pedal piano, curved piano, etc.  i don't exactly understand how a double ended grand would function.  (goes back to look)
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Two sets of strings for each keyboard are inside the case.

two separate cases for resonance, or both are in one and it sounds clamorous?

There is just one case.  I don't think it uses two regular frames and stacked into one case, which I highly doubt because that would take up too much room, but instead, is one irom frame that allows for stringing for both keyboards so strings that are struck with one keyboard are not struck with the other.

interesting!  might be fun to play one.

wonder who one calls (when lottery is won) about creating unique pianos such as this.  inventors, i suppose.

That Janko keyboard seems quite interesting...wonder if the system is something similar to those on an accordeon or bandoneon? Don't know which one of these (maybe both) have the non-piano keyboard.

I would love to play the double-ended Pleyel... I love Pleyel pianos, and I have heard music samples played on this kind of double-ended piano, made by Pleyel (I think it was the only factory that made these). There is a CD somewhere (I can't find it anywhere now) that has recordings of one duo playing on this piano, which had a great sound- at the level of a Steinway or Bosendorfer. I wonder what Chopin's Rondo for two pianos would sound like on this one...

I sooo want the crystal/fully transparent piano! It's so cool, bet it costs a bit though.

I'm pretty sure that this one plays normally and it is just the design that looks
totally awesome.
This is a Schimmel Pegasus Grand Piano.

I would be afraid to play on that one. The keyboards is slightly curved. wouldn't that screw you up if you went to a normal piano?

i like that, too, but is the bench attached so you can't scoot it in or out?  or can you lift it up and out of the setting?  will it then tip over?  will the piano itself tip over?  what does it look like with the lid down (a sort of sports car/piano?)  what is it made of?  plastic?  it looks like plastic.  is it lightweight and can you carry it around? (disassemble and reassemble quickly)

There was a factory (J.B. Cramer) that made portable pianos (travel pianos).
You have probably seen this, but take a look:https://www.periodpiano.com/Stock/images/large/JBCramerlge.htm
I wonder how it sounds...

wow.  that's a really messed up piano.  the keys don't even alternate between three and two.  it looks like a checkerboard.  and the keyboard above that.  oh dear.  my sides are splitting.  that one is a nightmare too.

figure out how to play that one!?  or better yet, to teach some lessons on it.  yes, i can see it now...ok jr.  put your 2-3 fingers on the sets of two black notes (teacher looks frantically for the sets of two)  ok that part is learned.  now, for the top row, say your musical alphabet without e.  and, the next row without b, and the next row without e, and then ext without b, and the next without e.  got that jr?

jr. starts crying.  teacher calls piano 'junko' (chinese teacher - 'piecee junko')  - becomes name of keyboard.

The man who invented this could apparantly play the Tchaikovsky Concerto on it.
