Trill help please?
on: August 10, 2005, 08:15:00 PM
I feel quite secure with my technique EXCEPT with trills! Can someone help me here? In particular, I have serious difficulties doing a trill + melody in one hand, and also have serious difficulties coordinating two trills at once (in one hand or two).

Case in point: LvB Op. 10/3, movement 3, trill starting at measure 26. In my version, the fingering for the trill is 4-3, and it also recommends that the first two melody notes (F# and E) be played with the right hand during this trill. Now, I can actually cheat here and hit those melody notes with my left hand since I can actually make this stretch, but I WANT to be able to do this all on my right hand. If I make the trill 8th notes, I can pull it off. But I can't trill much faster than that with my 4-3, let alone carry a melody along with it. So my main questions here are:

1. How can I work on getting my 4-3 trill up to speed?

2. How can I teach my fingers to keep the trill going while holding a melody?

Thanks in advance.
