on: August 13, 2005, 02:51:02 AM
If i were to play a recital, which pieces should i pick? i need to have one Brahms and one Chopin.

I'm already playing:

Bach WTC Book II No. 15 in G
Beethoven Sonata Op.2 no.3 1st mvmt

should play

Chopin etude op.10 no.5 in Gflat
or
Chopin nocture op.48 no.1 in c minor

Brahms Intermezzo Op.118 no.2 in A
or
Brahms Rhapsody Op.119 no.4 in Eflat

thanks

I would go with the Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1 in C minor (it has characteristics of a Ballade), and then Brahms' Rhapsody (to go with the characteristic of the first piece -  making all of this sound like a story).  ;)
Those two together can sound a little heavy-
This is a hard choice- These are very good pieces.
People will disagree with me, but well...  ::)

I just love the 118#2 though...It's hard to imagine any more beautiful piece.

I think it would be the most popular piece in the world if it sounded a little harder...

I like opus 118 No.2 as well, just don't play it too slow. I once heard a recording that was so slow (it took almost 7 minutes) that it drove me completely nuts and made me dislike the piece for a while.
It all happens on Discworld, where greed and ignorance influence human behavior... and perfectly ordinary people occasionally act like raving idiots.

A world, in short, totally unlike our own.

7 minutes... :-[ wow

I agree, but make sure you don't play it too fast...that would be even worse.
