Free finger from Horowitz

If you could replace any finger on your hand with one of Horowitz's, which would you choose?
a) thumb
b) index finger
c) middle finger
d) fourth finger
e) pinky

if i remember correctly from a video of his playing, he played very lightly with his pinky (unless rolling the hand toward it).

i certainly wouldn't want his foot, and possibly not his fingers either since i am a woman, but if i had to have a transplant it would be the middle three fingers (and not one) because fingers work together despite the idea of finger independence.

Keep the fingers. I just want the brain (with attached nervous system). ;)

Pinky

Cause Horowitz's pinky was like the only one that was completely independent from his fourth out of pretty much every pianist I've seen - if you've seen any videos of him you might have noticed that even when his fourth and third are playing, he's able to curl the fifth up right under his palm, something that no one else can do.

actually I do that all the time. Teachers hate it when I do it. I thought it was a bad thing.

his fingers werent actually very good pianists fingers, but its what he did with them thats so amazing.

if i could have something from him it would be his arms and not his fingers, for the amazing octaves he had.

I don't think it's that uncommon. I think it's a choice of whether you want it up or not to most pianists. I can lift my pinky up or curl it while my other fingers play, although I rarely do. I can also bend my fourth up and down without my 3rd or 5th moving. It's not anything special, but some might say these things are impossible according to the connected ligaments. Good practicing can create a surprising amount of finger independence.
