Alright, I'm hunting for a good 20th century etude for auditions, preferably short, and would appreciate it if you guys could come up with some suggestions. I'll list the ones I know of right off the bat:Bartok 3 Etudes Op. 18Debussy 12 EtudesKapustin Concert Etudes and Etudes in different intervalsLigeti EtudesMessiaen 4 Etudes of RhythmMorel 2 EtudesScriabin Etudes Op. 42; Op. 65Sorabji 100 Transcendental EtudesStravinsky 4 Etudes*I'm omitting stuff like Godowsky-Chopin and Rachmaninoff because I'm not really that interested in the romantic style, and would prefer something impressionistic, and/or mystical, i.e. Debussy and Scriabin, or at least tonal to a certain extent, i.e. Kapustin. *Also, my maximum span is about a minor 9th, so I'd have severe difficulty playing many of the etudes I listed, i.e. Scriabin and Sorabji.
Check out Prokofiev etudes, as well.
Scriabin Etudes Op. 42; Op. 65
Why only Op.42 and 65? Why didn't you include Scriabin's Op. 8 etudes?Phil
We don't know your technical standards, of course, but it is still worth observing that not all of Sorabji's cycle of 100 Transcendental Studies are of supreme difficulty by any means.Best,Alistair
