What sport do you do?
on: August 23, 2005, 10:52:09 AM
I'm bored so I thought I'll create an off topic thread.

I am a dedicated figure skater. Been ice skating for a few years now and injured my knee twice but still love it.  Am undergoing therapy for my knee now so kinda on pause but still want to sneak out and skate (despite parents wishes) but no jumps nor spin for the time being.

I use to love equestrian but I don't ride horses like crazy anymore after a fall right before my show jumping competition.  Nothing serious but hurts like twiddles.

I played soccer in the Swedish 3rd division 'til I moved and began my studies at the music college in another town (I was 20 at the time). After that I just never got a round to contact a soccer team and I only practice soccer with my old team when I visit my parents.

But I do play floorball, used to play in the 2nd division, nowadays in the 4th division as I concentrate more on my studies and don't have the time that is needed for playing in the higher divisions.

Other than that I'm fond of jogging and weight lifting (mostly my own body's weight as gym attendance costs multum.)

I also like handball, basket ball, base ball, table tennis and badminton; but alas, there is so little time!

I swim 10km every week for leisure (now don't ask me how much that is in miles). Not professionally or insanely compromised, just  for fun and for the aid it gives me on my  playing. Aside form yoga, swimming is the best thing you can do (as a complement for piano practice), and this is from my own experience - helps you concentrate on parts of your body you couldn't before, makes your shoulders a lot more relaxed and the stamina boost at the keyboard is crazy. If I could I would force every student of mine to do the same, but I would probably drown a few..   ;D

@janne - What's floorball?

@dinosaur - Ice hockey - I love watching the sport. Are you good? It's such a fast and rough sport, good for boys.

Badminton.

I'd love ice hockey, though, it's a very cool sport. Pity I haven't got time for it :P

@janne - What's floorball?

Kind of like ice hockey, only with shoes instead of skates and a hollow plastic ball with 24 (or is it 25?) holes in it instead of a puck. And on floor, not ice. :)

Am surprised at the number of Ice hockey-ers...bet they're all boys.

@Anson - swimming is the best sport - you won't ever get silly injuries. I'm resorting to that for a while.

Darned seasons passes are just getting so expensive, but at least the roads are being improved for the olympics

Tendonitis is what is bothering me too.  It has not been fun, that's for sure.

Pretty much everything the physical therapists and doctors have told me, i.e. stretching, strengthening, etc.  The problem apparently stems from some biomechanical issues with how my right ankle joint is positioned.  Essentially, at this point, I can't even run for 5 minutes without it inflaming the tendon; even after I have rested it for months.

At this point I think I am simply going to have to find another way to stay in shape.

Oh me. I hate injuries that forces you to stop (even for a while).  I injured my knee twice (once last year and this year) so no more figure skating for me until I'm fully recovered.  It's been 2 months since I skated, kinda miss the ice already. Physiotherapy alone don't work without tablets.  I had to take Acroxia for my injury.

Fat...perhaps.

Useless...no way.  Playing the piano allows you to create beauty.  The creation of beauty is one of the most useful things anyone could ever do.

Ultimate frisbee. It's a bit like rugby but non-contact  and played with the flying disc. It's really fun. Look here https://www.whatisultimate.com. Now looking at the pictures, I think I'll start again :)
