Brahms 2, Bahms 1, Rachmaninov 1 and 3, Beethoven 3 and 5, Mozart K. 414, alkan solo piano.

In my opinion the two brahms' are the two best concerti ever written (thugh I'm not decided on which is better) - I think each are worth about 5 mozart ones. I'm going to get hauled through the coals for saying that but it's true!

Easily the Rach's 1 and 2; Liszt's 1, totentanz, and malediction (a wonderful piece but under-heard); Brahms no. 1; the Tchaik 1; Mendelssohn's 1; Saint Saens "carnival"

Rodrigo - Piano Conerto (Hero)
MacDowell -  Piano 1 (  Yes I'm crazy, I like the first one more than the 2nd.)
Khacaturian - Such a demanding and crazy sounding piece...I LOVE IT!

What does everyone think of the ravel concerto (the two hands one)?. I love the finale but I don't get why everyone gets so worked up by the middle movement - it just seems to be a completely random melody that goes everywhere but where you expect. The first movement is good but you need to be in a certain mood to listen to it. On the whole I think it is really weird but it is appealing nonetheless.

The 2nd movement I was told has the longest (or one of the longest) melodies ever written.  The complete piano monologue up to where the flute finishes is the 1st theme of the movement.
Never look at the trombones. You'll only encourage them.

I'm sure I'll forget several, but here goes:

Bach D minor, E major
Mozart 9, 10, 11, 17, 19, 22, 24
Beethoven 4, 5
Schumann
Chopin 1, 2
Liszt 1
Brahms 2
Grieg
Tchaikovsky 1
Saint-Saens 5
Rachmaninov 2, Paganini Rhapsody
Bartok 3
Prokofiev 3
Shostakovich 2

At some point I plan to invest in a vast portion of the Hyperion Romantic Piano Concerto collection, so this list will doubtless be added to in years to come.

Beethoven's No. 5; Mozart's K. 488 in A; Tchaikovsky's No. 1 in Bb min.; & this season the IVS is doing Prokofief's No. 3 which sort of sounds like a train wreck, and only has about 10 notes for trombone, but I like it.

i heard a beautiful one i'd never heard before on the radio a few days back, but they didn't say who composed it and what it was afterwards.

leroy anderson's piano concerto is cool.

and, all of waldzenen's choices, except i put the emperor at the top.

I want to add the Chopin F minor, Beethoven C minor and the Rubinstein D minor to my previous list. Also the thread title is driving me nuts. :P

They are beautiful but boring they certainly doesnt reach the level of the music he wrote after ending those.

I completely disagree. I'd prefer his concerti to his hackneyed waltzes any day.
