This seems as good a place as any to say 'hello.'  I'm a piano teacher in Ontario, Canada.  I'm also going back into lessons, so I can finally get my Grade 10 and ARCT.  I've got an in-home studio with a dozen students right now, and I'm learning just how much I really need to learn about piano playing.

My performing repertoire isn't as good as I'd like it to be; mostly Joplin and some easy Chopin (if that isn't a contradiction in terms).  But I'm working on it.

One question: I notice that a lot of people talk about the grading system stopping at 8.  Here, the grades go to 10 and ARCT.  So which grading system stops at 8?

I've been reading this board for a couple of weeks now, and I've learned quite a few things already.  For example, don't mention 'Hanon.'  ;)  I've started making a list of pieces I want to learn, including everything Chopin did (264 individual pieces or movements).  I'm also going to learn Czerny's Sonata in A minor, Op. 15, as well as several standard repertoire pieces (Bach's WTC, Beethoven's Sonatas, the usual).
An amateur practices until he gets it right; a professional practices until he can't get it wrong.

Hi Borealis and welcome!
Well I don't know about the others but our syllabi here go to grade 8 then we have sort of tertiary grades (AMus, LMus). Here is Australia. Hope that helps a bit.
As in DON'T mention Hanon?! Oh wait I just did it too...

Hi!
My name is Bella, I’m 16 years old, and I’ve been a piano student since I was 8.
A friend showed me this forum, and I see it as an opportunity to share experiences, techniques, frustrations, and much more things that only a person who is really passionate about the instrument is capable of understanding ...
My favorite composers are Debussy, Ravel and Villa-Lobos , and I hope to contribute to the everybody’s study with my experiences.
I am Brazilian, so understand that my English is not as good as it could be, but at least I'm trying!

Best wishes to all ;)

Allow me to introduce myself.  Some of you already know me, some of you don't.  I am Paul, formerly known as pmz310.  I have been resurrected, and you shall now address me as "punk", "punk Piano", I don't care, but to prevent confusion, just call me Paul.

Greetings  8)
I'm Iroveashe, you can call me Iro, Irov, or anything you like though my real name is Germán, and no, as hard to believe as it might be, I am not a country, it's a common name where I live, which is Argentina. I've been a self-taught pianist for 3 years and Beethoven is my favorite thing of all times, he IS God to me and his music is my Bible. I also like other composers of course, specially Bach, Chopin, Mozart, Liszt, Wagner, Schubert and many more; and some rock bands like Queen and Pink Floyd and I love Sinatra.
Besides music my main interests are films, TV shows (I watch A LOT of 'em), reading and videogames.
I'm 19 years old (will be 20 this Sunday =P) and I'm here mainly to learn and share, and hopefully make some friends.

So, in 1980 (the end of the 70's) I was 12.

Unfortunately for me, the wild times had to wait.

Well I'm not really fond of presents... Unless it's cash... Or my very own piano. Please? Pretty pretty please?
The piano I got 3 years ago was a Christmas/B-day present, I might get a new one soon for the same reasons; I'd give you the old one for your birthday, but I need the money... and trust me, you don't want that piano >_>
