EDIT: Nevermind! It's all good.
on: September 04, 2005, 05:46:25 AM
I am an 18 year old male, studying piano (classical) for 13 years.

I just moved into a dorm at Ohio U for my freshman year.

I am homesick.

I am having a rough time.

Comments by various people have hurt me deeply.  Perhaps people have been offended by what I have said about their various pet pieces, or because I have taken stances opposite them in intelligent arguments.  This gives them no right to wish that I was never born.

Please realize that comments or arguments that I make may not be entirely rational at this moment.  I am not a lawyer; I am not a speaker.  I am not a professional, but I have a right to my opinion.

I am a college student trying hard to adjust to life away from home.  Please do not add to my troubles.

If you think that I am too immature to be posting here and giving my opinions, please tell me so now right out rather than in slightly veiled hints.  I would rather leave now and face the prospect of losing what is (at least right now) one of the few constants in my life than face the prospect of reading insulting comments every day.

People may not realize how hurtful these comments are.  As it is, I feel like deleting all of my posts and leaving.  Perhaps middle-aged people can withstand these comments more easily; I cannot.  I am not dramatizing; I am having trouble keeping myself from dismissing my talent in general.

Terry, I went my entire school years being teased and picked on... and you know what I learn't??? It's that some time in their lives, those people will grow up and realise what pricks they've been in the past and resent themselves for saying those things.

Some sadly enough, will never mature (psychologically) and will always be little pricks that only feed on others misery. And sadly enough, the only way to deal with it - is to ignore the person. Cause if you DO ignore them, it says more about your strength of character than their lack of it.

Hope it makes you feel better.

You shouldn't be offended by what people say to/about you on the Internet. You learn this gradually over time.

Some members will probably give you sympathy. I assume that's what you want. But these forums are not for the faint of heart. And if you think you're having a hard time here, I can only imagine what it would be like for you on Gamingforce...

www.johncareycompositions.com/forum is my forum. People rarely argue there. It's a very friendly community, and everyone knows each other better.

Or possibly you are more the type for www.dasdc.net. There are very few arguments there. The community is very much like a large family. You might find the way they write a bit strange at first, but it grows on you.

Anyway, the point is, these forums aren't for everyone. The smartest thing to do is to take what everyone says with a grain of salt.

Best regards,
John Carey

EDIT: my previous response was too emotional.  Please realize that I don't want sympathy, I want your insults, and others, to stop.  You can disagree with me; please don't disregard my feelings.

Provide one example of a post where I "insulted" you and I'll take back everything I said.

Just one.

Carey, dude, remember that one time when you invited me over for tea and cake, and the night ended with you chasing me out the door with a 12-gauge? Good times.

Well, you also gotta keep in mind that a lot of people on this forum are old.. umm... mature, I mean.  So they'll have a really hard time relating to whatever us youngin's think about.  Myself, I'm a pretty laid back person...  some people take it as being immature.

I'm not old at all. And there is a difference between immaturity and ignorance.

What do we have to do with this?

If you feel depressed talk with friends of even professional help. It's not like we have anything to do with it. If you take rational arguments personal you shouldn't be in any discussion. If you take personal insults serious while there is no personal contact with other people on this forum you shouldn't be talking on a forum at all.

[edit]

Ok, I just tried to reconstruct what happened. You started a topic to attack a piece you know very little about and based the attack on personal opinion and you even claimed it should be deleted from history? It's hard to be sure because you deleted everything you said, which is stupid. What did you expect? I would sacrifice my life to save OC from being erased from history. Why do you want to take away other peoples right to enjoy the OC? When I feel depressed I listen to the OC and I am amazing by the organisation and sense it makes. It inspires me and gives me positive energy. Without it I would feel worse than you.

Pita said he rather wanted you deleted from history, of course this was a parody in some sense so he didn't mean it. It was meant to show how mean you were, apart from being wrong and ignorant, in your posts. And the only thing he knew about you was those posts. So in some sense he said he wanted those posts deleted and that is what you did.

But don't take anything personal. I am a blunt elitist *** on these boards but I am quite nice, polite and a bit shy in reality. Maybe you are a very nice and intelligent person. I don't know what motivated you to attack the OC and all the people that like the OC. I think you apoligised so for me its finished, you are perfectly forgiven, no hard feelings.

You ask other people to consider your feelings. We can't. This board is highly impersonal. I can't see your face and you can't see mine. Thats why you were rude and mean and that is why other people were rude and mean and that is why I am rude and mean. It's because of the way this board works. Your feelings don't exist for me and mine don't exist for you. We can't consider each others emotions.

Hey ChopinTOD,

For what it's worth, I think you're cool.  I totally can relate to being 18 and being away from home (my first year of college), and I can also relate to being ripped apart for being different.  I haven't been following your posts, so I don't know about what you said in regards to peoples pieces or whatever, but the in the ones I have seen, you stood up for what you knew was right even though you knew you were stepping into the line of fire to do so.  And to encourage you, Terry, I was always raised with it takes more of a man to do that then to be so called "cool" and go with the flow.  So I respect you, man.  Don't go.

Exactly, it was a parody on your question "What piece would you want to delete from the history of mankind" (probably not your exact wording, except for the history of mankind part).

Chopintod, since other people want you to stay. Please learn to judge the comments people make on their value, ie very little, and just stay. Don't make a problem out of nothing.

Oh, and Terry I'm glad it's all okay. Yeah, the world would be nothing without women. Have had mine for about 9 months now.

There's too much fun here to go away. For what it's worth, I think you're awesome. (partially because you think Chopin is God too.)

Yeah, what is that all about? "Tod" in German means death, so what is "Chopintod" supposed to mean? Did I miss something? ???

Some more talking and walking with her.  Life be good.

I'm not sarcastic Carey--I do love you.

Cracking up about Tod=death; here we go:

My name is Terrence James O'Donovan; I go by Terry.  On the internet, though, I use my sorta-kinda initials: TO'D; tod.   there you go.

And yes, Chopin is god.

Oh, more BTW: played the piano at the Uni center (i think Kelsey was impressed--that girl) and all these OTHER girls started flocking....

Yea, can't wait... :P

Only problem is, our RA's told us that the cops randomly arrest people that night for being in the wrong locations or something.  He said that you literally can't walk on Court st. (the main street) cause of all the people there.  But the cops now have tasers.
