Mozart Recommendation

Hi all,

I would like to attempt a Mozart Sonata. Not really sure what to go for though. I have a copy of K570 mov3, and it sounds within my reach. Are there others of a similar level that you would recommend for a beginner / intermediate pianist (around gr5 standard)?

Im prepared to step up my game anf work hard on this, but I dont want anything that will be intimidatingly diffcult.

I think the K 332 (F major) or the K 283 (G major) would be very manageable for you.  Good luck!

I did have a brief look at K330/300, but its to much for me right now. Shame, cuz I like that one too!

330 is easy. 332? that is one of the more difficult ones...??

Don't try K332 yet.   It is difficult!   
I agree, the G major is lovely.  I would go for that one.

Hey, thanks for all the ideas! Plenty to have a good at by the looks of things.

K330, yeh I keep hearing that this one is easy, but on recordings it seems pretty quick and I doubt I could get it upto that pace right now. Id like to do a couple of others before tackling this one.

So K332 is rough then? Maybe I shall put that on my future list 

For now I will give K570 and K283 some hammer.

K. 333 isn't too bad, maybe that one. 545 is lovely (and the 2nd and 3rd movements aren't overplayed at all).
There's another that would be good but the key and K. are eluding me atm, I'll get back to you on it...

It's not that bad... I find it's hard to grade the Mozart sonatas.  They are pretty much all sight-readable, but yet hard to hold in concert.

I find the k332 quite enjoyable to play, so I agree with this recommendation even considering the nastiness of the 3rd mvt.

Sight-readable for you mate, not for me unfortunately. I need stuff thats a challenge, but far from difficult.

I've started the k284 a month ago... and WOW, just love it! Just heard all Mozart's sonatas over and over and they're simply gorgeous.
I agree with Shasta, it's really hard to grade the difficulty of a Mozart piano sonata. The required simpicity, or even naïveté or funny character or contrasts, are not easy tasks to accomplish. But apart from that, I believe you'll be just fine with the sonata you choose. Even if it is a little bit hard for you, all mozart sonatas have the advantage of being very good substitutes for those anoying exercices like Hanon in order to develop your technique with the musicality extra.
