who's getting married?  didn't wagner compose the wedding march that is normally used.  did mendelssohn borrow the tune?  i can't recall if i've played mendelssohn's version.  i know i've played handel and schubert at weddings - and a shortened version of the wedding march.  did grieg compose one too?

and, ladies, if you are not married yet, don't let one of those musicians talk you out of your traditional wedding march.  someone talked me out of mine (to be different) and when the time came for me to walk down the aisle (when the music started it sounded less like a march) noone turned around until i was halfway up the aisle - because they didn't recognize the music (since it was changed).

ok. there were so many things about my wedding that i would do different now.  it's basically who you marry, tho, anyway, and not the wedding itself - so i guess it doesn't matter.  but, in hindsight, i wouldn't have been so hasty choosing a floral person.  my bouquet was handed to me just before walking down the aisle.  it scared me to think i would be walking down without a bouquet (and would have bought a silk floral arrangement to just keep handy had i known it might be a problem).

my wedding day could well have been the most stressful day of my life (not even barring the first baby).  at least having music that you recognize will help you find yourself in time and space.

In England, we usually have Wagner going in to church and Mendelssohn going out.

However, almost anything and everthing is played nowadays.

If i ever get married, I think i will have "what kind of fool am I " and "nobody loves a fairy when he's 40".

you're so funny thalbergmad.  you're not too old.  and, you are very active.  and you don't look like a fairy. you could probably keep up with a teenagers schedule.  my husband has a lot of energy too.  he married me at fourty, and i was thankful he was older.  he was way more polite (most of the time), and generally cared for my well being through thick and thin.  he used to walk too fast, but he's modified it over time.  he's even slowed down his eating.  we had our first child when he was 45.

he's pushing 61 and energetic as ever.  occasionally he'll lose the keys, but his mind is very sharp.  his dad made it to 80 something - whereas his aunt (who constantly worried about her food, died in her 60's).  just goes to show, if you enjoy your life and don't worry much - you can get married whenever you feel like it.  i don't think the lighthouse idea will work, though.  thalbergmad, you have to actively go to weddings.  like 'the wedding crashers.'  there you will be 6-7 bridesmaids of the loveliest brides and check them out while sipping champagne.  how bad of an idea is that.  especially in england.  they must do some pretty lovely weddings there.

of course, some people, as myself, have a backyard or garden wedding and get their best friend to take the pics.  aside from the terrible quality of the home video (which i shudder when i watch), it's kinda funny.  i mean, where was the camera man when a fly walked across the lens?  ok. but he did take some good still shots.

We had Mendelssohn's as our recessional...I love it. Wagner's has too many word associations: Here comes the bride, all dressed in white. Here comes the groo-oom, skinny as a broom... Couldn't face that!

Just under any circumstances do not use the infamous Pachelbel Canon in D

 :-\

(I know, it's not a canon....)
