Piano Servicing, Tuning, and Rebuilding by Arthur Reblitz is the technician's "bible."

Piano servicing and repair is not a do-it-yourself project like putting up venetian blinds or changing a washer.  Working on pianos is highly technical and is difficult to learn from a book.  The Reblitz book in conjunction with hands-on supervision from an experienced technician is the way to go.

cheers for that, - no worries, I have had a history of fixing our family piano to keep it going - I just thought, now I am grown up, I could do with a slightly more professional approach beyond bending paperclips around broken shanks etc..
