Help - Ideas for my JAPAN trip??
on: September 23, 2005, 04:10:04 AM
Hello everyone!

Would anyone care to help me with some "Must See" or "Must Visit" music/piano shops in Japan? I'm planning to visit Tokyo/Yokohama/Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto/Nara, and probably Kanazawa.

If there are any great music sheet stores, or any piano shops in those areas that I may be able to fit into our schedule, I'd like to go!

In another forum I was informed that Kawai has factory tours........does Yamaha also???

Thanks for your help! :-*

Gashi :)

Watashi-wa Fukuoka ni sundeimashita... oh sorry

Well, I lived in Fukuoka, Japan for a year back in 1980 teaching English and studying karate.  I visited almost every city you listed (with the exception of Kanazawa and maybe Hakone).

Out of the cities listed Kyoto/Nara were my all-time favorite cities.

Must see places in Kyoto are;

Kyumizudera  (famous temple), https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3901.html

Sanjusangenjo,  https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3900.html

Kinkakuji (golden pavillion), https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2158.html

Toji, https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3919.html

Kodaiji, https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3927.html

And in Nara

Todaiji, https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2165.html

Kofukuji, https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4101.html

Check out this site for the other places you'd like to visit.

I wish I were going, you'll have a great time! ;D

Iié, doitashimashite

I'm afraid my Japanese is a little rusty. I think you said you were born in Yokohama. Something about moving to America with a wife and living there now 40 years. Your grandfather still lives in Yokohama. Mother wasn't Japanase, so you are half Japanase.

How did I do?

Anyway, have a great trip to Japan

Dozo, o-daiji ni.

Hi allthumbs,

You're close, but what I actually said was that I was born in Kamakura, but when I was five, we moved to America - 40 years have passed. I have an Uncle in Yokohama. My Mom is Japanese, so I'm half Japanese. I'm looking forward to my trip to Japan.

(Unfortunately, my Uncle isn't knowledgable about pianos or music so he won't be much help).

Does anyone out there know of any music sheet stores, or great piano shops around Tokyo?  Thanks.

you could go to either Yamano or the Yamaha music store in Ginza, which is where i love to go. good food, good music stores, and... uh yeah. it just kicks so much ass that it makes me roll around the floor like a Tazmanian Devil.
