Help finding R. Strauss piano music, compositions by Glenn Gould...
on: September 24, 2005, 04:34:38 AM
I can not find any piano music by R. Strauss anywhere, yet I have heard Gould play some of it, so I know its out there. Can someone help me find some of it?
I know Glenn Gould composed some things. Is any of it in the General Repertoire and where can I find it?
I am looking for some good intermediate piano trios or other piano, violin, violoncello works. Can someone name a few good ones they have heard? I know Beethoven and Haydn wrote lots of them, but are they really hard?

Hi,
I don't know about Strauss but Gould wrote many pieces. His only Op. is his string quartet, but he wrote many fascinating piano pieces...mostly in serial style. Check out his unfinished piano sonata, his sonata for bassoon and piano, his Lieberson Madrigal, "So you want to write a fugue?" (my personal fav.), and his 2 short pieces for piano. If you want recordings post your e-mail and I'll send you the mp3s.

Asked if he had ever conducted any Stockhausen,Sir Thomas Beecham replied, "No, but I once trod in some."
