mozart fantasy Cadenzas
on: September 24, 2005, 06:33:03 PM
hi, i'm working on a mozart fantasy, and would like advice about the cadenzas (sp?)  i have the notes ok, but am having trouble with my wrist and hands tightening up...which my teacher sais is bad.  Does anyone know any way to help loosen it up? ...when i relax my hand and arm it usually ends up in a huge mess.  please help!

I don't know the piece your'e talking about, but yeah, wrist tension is bad. The way I avoid it is by learning to play something very slowly at first until it is completely ingrained - speed it up, but never to the point of wrist tension. Eventually you'll get it.

some say to practice the notes in patterns or rhythms.  this does help me, because you quickly have to go through a small group of notes (and it sets in your memory).  for the octaves, you just have to practice that!  the run isn't particularly easy, but it's not terribly hard either.  it's sort of easy/hard.  just have to remind yourself of the note pattern.  once you become familiar with how it should sound, then you try to match the speed, lightness, and dynamics to what you hear in your head.

yeah...I recently had a lesson with a lady who told me also to put the emphasis on the more 'interesting' parts of the pattern, such as d#, E, D, C#, B, A, G#, A#, A, instead of the scale part; C, A#, G, F, E, D.  if that makes any sense?  thank you!

Which fantasy? A solid reply would depend on this information.
