disappointed

I have just been diagnosed with arthritis in my right hand wrist. I am playing at a grade 8 level. While the condition has not yet affected my piano playing. I am worried that it will. Has anyone else got arthritis and play the piano? What can be done about it? How does one be a piano player and have arthritis at the same time? I have goals long term and short term and Im really afraid that this arhthritis is going to be a downfall. I have things to accomplish places to go and this diagnosis has really hurt my feelers. Can anyone fill me in on how one copes with this? Thank you very much.

I have the best news to tell all. I went in for a second opinion at a sports clinic and I am told it is not arthritis that it is tendonitis. Which can be cured. So.....I will be in there twice a week for treatments. YAY! I am so beyond relief!

nvcc,

I would suggest you talk to someone who specializes in repetitive stress related injuries resulting from playing musical instruments.

Actually I believe it is a combination of things. I recently started doing full piano practices for hour and half I also use the computer alot for website designing, games and such.I also canoe pull which is a stress on my forearms. Im elimnating the computer and canoe so that I can concentrate on my piano but also working on the strengthening exercises. I have played the piano for 11 yrs now and never had a problem with my wrists. I was tauhgt how to hold my hands and the correct posture to play the piano. I believe that helped in the long run.
