Please watch your spelling.Bach's parties were actually rather dull. Forget the "wine and women" -- but perhaps some very staid and religiously oriented "song."Bach was a very stauch Protestant and did not go with any "jiggery pokery."Likely, any parties at the Bach home were family affairs, with games for the children.Does anyone have any information about Bach's family life?Regards--
Actually, Bach may not have been the sanctimonious, religious type many people are convinced he was. We know he was into drugs (coffee, tobacco and beer) and that he didn’t mingle with the clergy – in fact he positively disliked some of them. He might have been part of a secret society dedicated to the pursuit of scientific knowledge – something frowned upon by the religious authorities of his day, and politically risky. Yes, there is more to the old wig’s life than meets the eye. I suggest two books, the first a page turner (at least it was for me – which just shows I truly have no life ), the second more scholarly and heavy going :Klaus Eidam – The true life of J. S. Bach - Basic BooksChristoph Wolff – J. S. Bach, The Learned Musician – Oxford University Press Best wishes,Bernhard.
