Best recording of Petrushka

Any favorite recordings of the piano solo Petrushka? Preferably something fast, accurate AND musical?

too many to name

for musical insight n accetable speed /emotion (fury) I like Gilels (a.k.a CUDA/CUBA/Cuba Gooding Jr.) from the Great Pianists Series, as well as a live concert of his I heard somewhere ( look at my signature).

Pollini

For speed fury wrong notes and no musical worth...well those recordings are all over the internet.

Studio:  Pollini is considered the "reference", but let's be honest, I don't think it is possible to play the piece that way in a live performance...
Weissenberg is also worth a listen.

Live: Berman (Lazar) is just crazy, very intense. Cherkassky is very "witty" in his interpretation, but big slow downs in the hard parts... I personally don't mind that.  Sokolov is pretty good (live in Tokyo).

Funny fact: Brendel played  Petroushka for his first professional studio rec...  :o

Why not?

Pollini have played even harder works live without any mistakes.

Gilels doesn't fail to impress. I loved his Prokofiev Sonata #8, but his messy Ravel Toccata left a bad impression on me- this Petrushka makes up for that.

I will not believe it till I hear a live recording (unedited) that sounds just like Pollini studio.  It's not about playing without mistakes...  It's about the clarity of each and every single note.  Till I hear otherwise, I consider it impossible.

My, my, completely forgot about Gilels.  :-[  I love his Petroushka.  The sound production is amazing.

Best I've heard is the live Weissenberg video from the 60's (not the one from Sweden though).  Otherwise, Gilels, Berman, Horowitz (Danse Russe only)., and Bronfman.  Best performance I've heard in person was Sokolov.

Gilels...especially the way he sings out in the final movement. Pollini is good too, ...haven't heard others.

Gilels and Sokolov

If you can get hold of it, Michael Kieran Harvey does a blindingly brilliant version of this as well!!!
