Sports you play that does not damage your fingers
on: October 01, 2005, 09:38:40 AM
Well i personally swim alot, i don't think it damages my fingers and its probably the best sport because it makes woman want to woo you when you swim 200 butterfly(me hehehe) and its good for the cardiovascular and others.

Weight lifting is a big nono if your are playing piano.
Don't know about tennis, but its probably bad
Is swimming a better sport to pick up?

Ice hockey*.  Football**.  Rugby**.

Well, actually, i play tennis.   And run track.  But I also play soccer, and that's probably one of the more dangerous ones.  Getting stepped on by cleats would hurt fingers.

If you work out smart and understand your limits, injury wont be an issue. But if you're like me and juss go all out, then there is a problem.

ping pong is dangerous! i once broke my glasses playing ping pong, using my hand as the racket- my finger got caught in my glasses as i was lifting it to hit a high ball and the glasses went flying...not cool!!

Anything can be done as long as it is done properly. Although some sports put more stress on certain bodily parts than others, as long as one understands the movements involved and can manage to concentrate on them, pretty much anything should be feasible. Weight lifting is certainly not off-limits. Rock climbing is a bit dangerous, though, because there are plenty of factors that are not under personal control. Chess is good, although I did manage to hurt my fingers once in a while hitting the clock, opening a bottle of beer, or getting into a brawl.

swimming is good. I play ice hockey which is very grueling but not that bad on the  fingers, as I wear huge hockey gloves. My friends say that I have a good wrist shot because I play piano ( you have to have relaxed wrists with a nice fluent motion to get off a good shot). I have been slashed on the wrist with a hockey stick before, trust me, that's not pleasent. I also play tennis. I haven't found that to be particulary tough on the fingers, unless you punch your raquet or the cage like I have.  >:(  I don't know what it is about tennis that makes me so competitive. I guess when your playing hockey which is a team game you can rely on your teammates to step it up when your having an off day. Having a bad day  playing tennis you have to work yourself out of the mess your put yourself in, no one is coming off the bench for you. Anyway, I would try and stay away from basketball unless your 7 feet, your fingers will take a beating with hard passes and opposing players poking at you for the ball. football is pretty rough on any body part. Running track is great. weightlifting is a little bit of a gamble, sometimes my hands hurt and sometimes they don't, never agonizing pain though. being a guy that's a risk I'll take. :)
