everyone should learn schubert's wanderer-fantasie!
on: October 01, 2005, 09:45:01 PM
 ;D

This piece rules- so awesomely over the top. It's the best!!! ;D
I started it yesterday and it's so much fun to practice, although I'm trying to be careful and not over-practice it (don't want to hurt myself, some of the chords are sick and I can only reach a 9th at fuuulll stretch). So far I've got 3 pages down of the 1st movement. 8)
Who else has played / wants to play it?

[lau] 10:01 pm: like in 10/4 i think those little slurs everywhere are pointless for the music, but I understand if it was for improving technique

I'm with you.  This is one of my all-time favorite works, but then Schubert is one of my favorite composers.

It is great, one of the best large scale solo piano works. You're right, but if everyone played it it might get hackneyed, which it does not deserve....

I like it too.
I remember when i first heard it, they played it on the radio when i was in my car on the way to work one day, and i listened and listened and...
I arrived at the parking at work, and i still listened. Almost came in late that day because i didn't want to turn the radio off, and i wanted to know what piece it was.

 :)
It's a long piece. LOL.

I have never tried it myself though, maybe it's time since you put it like that.

Yes, everyone should learn it.

Apparantly poor Schubert had not the fingers to play it and broke down in performance.

After hearing the Wanderer Fantasy and some of his best Sonatas you wonder why the hell Schubert never wrote a Piano Concerto.
Fortune favours the musical.

It's a complete blast. But only those with the requisite pianile girth should thrust themselves into it. It's really hard and there is a really sticky part at the end.

Yup, Liszt arranged it for two pianos- sheetmusicarchive has the music for it-
https://sheetmusicarchive.net/dlpage_new.cfm?composition_id=1931

I haven't heard it myself; I did hear from one person that the solo version is better, though.

Liszt arranged it for piano and orchestra. That's the 2 piano reduction you have there.

Liszt also made his own solo version of it.

Should have left it alone.

I love Schubert and I love the Wanderer Fantasy...but please lets pray that everyone does not learn this until they have the skill to play it1!!
