Brahms 2, if she doesn't like it, she isn't worth it anyway.

just thinking about it now, i posted earlier about the reflet dans l'eau ( havent finished yet). even if i do perform to a girl it isnt going to turn them on. i have horrible "E.T. fingers" as some say, which are beatiful to me but not to others.

ET fingers.  hahaha that's funny!  But, don't you think the music speaks for itself.  I mean, i think if a girl is musical, she'll like your fingers because they play such good music.

if i were playing for a guy, i'd try to get a curtain.  i'd want him to like the music first.  i don't know why, but i can't control my facial expressions all the time yet - so i have no clue what i'm doing half the time.  guess i need some videotapes so i can get clued in.  i don't want to  rotate around and around (as my son noticed each van cliburn contestant doing).  he said, mom, you do that too.  move around and around in a circle.  i thought i had modified that one!  i thought i was leaning back.  every time i feel like leaning forward - i try to lean back.  it's very hard.

helene grimaud is not only a good pianist, but she looks good playing.  that's very hard to do.  (as i've noticed other threads on other pianists and how they grimace and contort their face).  that would be a turn off.

She looks good even when she isn't playing. 8)

Hmm.... I agree Grimaud is a very talented pianist, and does look good at the piano, but she, along with so many talented pianists, betimes has a tendency to inhale very loudly during emotionally charged passages, which I consider another turn off.  In 2003 I saw her perform the Bartok Concerto No.3 with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and she was inhaling so loudly during the first third of the slow movement that I was sure she would end up inhaling the entire piano.  I almost bit off my lower lip trying to stifle my laughter after this went on for several entrances in a row!  She returned to Detroit a year later performing the Brahms Concerto No.2, a piece which contains some of my favourite moments in all of music, but I decided to pass on seeing her after the Bartok experience. (Pity, she'd probably have been an improvement over Kissin, the last pianist I saw perform it live.)

As for the topic of this thread.... well, I've found that there is no piece of music that is guaranteed to make the object of your "affection" pounce on you after you've played the final chords - he or she probably has to be thinking about it already so that the performance is sort of another step in the mating game, as it were.  Piano play as foreplay, almost.  In my last relationship there were probably times when I could have played "Chopsticks" and she would have pounced on me afterward (and conversely, even though she couldn't play the piano at all).  At other times I could have played a flawless rendition of the "Appassionata" (except that such a performance was and is beyond me!) and only been rewarded with applause.

prokofiev war sonatas, and   late scriabin sonatas, hehehe , just kidding
however, the late scriabin sonatas are meant to be really sensual.  so i guess one can try one of those out , and see if it works, although i doubt it , unless the girl is a scriabin fan . hehe.

Scriabin: Poeme op. 32 no.1 i think. (in F#)
If this is the one i am thinking, then i really mean it this time , this should work, one of my favourite scriabin pieces.

just out of interest a girl did say 'oh i envy the woman who'll be your wife' after i played chopin's 1st ballade to her 8) (possibly the most absurd compliment i've ever had).  Sadly, nothing came of it, so it probably didn't work that well  :-\

I think, Stevie, you could play the Funeral March and get girls hearing the Wedding March because as you say......

my problem is, i am an extremely good-looking, physically attractive man.
i have large hands, and a charming manner, and of course my modesty precedes me.

If you think she might like a bit of rough, then Bartok's Allegro Barbaro might do.

However, don't play Chopin's "Minute" Waltz, or she might think you have premature ej...

Hey Stevie, if you're still practicing Ocean,

try connecting the thumb to the pinky in both hands for slow practice, and to accent every four notes rather than every three in slow practice, otherwise you will hear it in groups of three and it's hard to sound flowing.  just thought I should throw that out there, but good job sir  :)

The Ocean Etude is one of my better warhorses hehe, glad to know it turns someone on  ;D

im afraid i randomly never try slow practice once i have memorised a piece, it bores me and i dont have the discipline...

you could probably tell that though, also, i didnt use pedal at all, so any technical inadequecies are glaring, and that was my intention.

Be careful what you ask for -- what you get.

Just tell them you play piano.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned jazz or blues.  Pop music of course.  Play II V I.... "I wrote that just for you babe..."  :D

Play a Beatles song.

Sing while playing.

And then for those that think of themself as more sophisticated and sensitive -- something classical.

Careful what you get though.  I've seen guys doing this.  I've had girls approach me once in awhile -- even while not playing, when I was just sitting at a piano or mentioning it.  It doesn't take much to impress some.

Or she may not be that interested in what you're playing, so anything would work.

And of course, watch out for a musician.  They'll know what you're up to.  "This is the theme from The Titantic baby..." ;)

i'm impressed if a guy can be serious enough about piano to engage the entire audience.  i like the occasional  look to somewhere out there, but tend to favor conductors and (should i say it?) pianists that are mostly in love with the piano.  it seems more sincere to love them for what they play and who they are personally than to get some gain from it.  i don't think women necessarily want the romance as much as the impression.

ps i think that women cannot help but be a little bit confused if the pianist performing wears a really good cologne.  the latest on that had me sniffing several times was BLV pour homme by bulgaria.  but, that's a secret that only polished italian shoes can compete with.
