Pieces for accuracy
on: October 04, 2005, 08:55:03 AM
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend easyish, beautiful pieces with large jumps and quick changes that require a lot of accuracy.  I think accuracy is one area that I need to address in my playing, and would appreciate any comment apart from the information in archieved threads.

Satie's Gymnopedes have lots of left hand jumps, but they are rather easy.

Easiest:
Bergerac – Marshmallow sundae (I teach this on the first lesson – that is how easy it is – it jumps all over the keyboard)

J. S. Bach (attributed – but probably anonymous): Musette from the Little book of Anna Magdalena Bach.

Prokofiev - Tarantella (from “Children pieces” op. 65)

Intermediate:

Most ragtime will require accurate jumping on the left hand.

Satie – 3 Gymnopedies (accurate jumping on the left hand)

Prokofiev – The Montagues and the Capulets (from his own transcription of “Romeo and Juliet”) – Lots of jumpings on both hands (and you get octave work as a bonus)

Chopin – Polonaise Militaire in A (and any of the nocturnes and waltzes will do as well).

Advanced:

J. S. Bach – Giga from Partita no. 1 (not only lots of jumping around as crossing hands as well).

I may come back with more.

Best wishes,
Bernhard.

Well,

I've been looking at Brahms Valses Opus 39 number 1 and it has lots of jumps, octaves and big chords. It's level 6 (ABSRM)

The Entertainer, from Scott Joplin also have lots of jumps and chords (it's a rag time).

Anybody can recommend how to practice accuracy in pieces like these? I find them very challenging.
