Anyone in Europe who can get satellite broadcasts on Astra 19 degrees E may be interested to know that TVP Kultura, the Polish channel, is broadcasting live the whole of the first round of this competition which is currently in progress (and presumably the later rounds as well).  It is certainly my first opportunity in the UK to see any coverage of this competition.

If the repertoire were more varied I would probably video the recitals - but you would have to be a very big Chopin fan to watch 80 40 minute first round all-Chopin recitals.  I wonder how the jury find the stamina.  It is interesting to go to the website of this competition and note how few countries the competitors come from compared with, say the Leeds or Van Cliburn.

Actually you can watch it in internet: https://www.itvp.pl/chopin/
Click on "Zobacz transmisje" to watch it, "Rozklad transmisji" tells you what time can you watch it. You should also know that the second round and the final will also be transmited.

Regards,
Greg

PS. I just noticed there is also an english version of the page: https://www.itvp.pl/chopin/chopin_en/i.tvp/

I heard Ingolf Wunder play today during second stage.  I think he has a good chance of winning the competition.

he rapes a little too much for the judges taste, i predict, but he is BY FAR my favourite of the competition, he is a legend already.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
