A good digital or a good upright
on: October 06, 2005, 07:47:52 PM
Hi,
Would a good digital like a Roland Hp107 or Yamaha Clp 270 hold up in comparison to a good upright?
If not how much would the accoustic cost in terms of £££s.You can buy the Roland 107 for around £2000.

Search through some of the relatively recent digital threads.
Different advantages / disadvantages for each.
You'll get a well maintained upright for 2k, [new or 2nd hand]
But you don't need to spend 2k to get a decent digital or, put another way, I'd struggle to be convinced that any of the features, the action or the sound on a 2k+ digital piano are going to make it any closer to a real acoustic than a 1k one.
One possible exception perhaps, the grandtouch and similar with real acoustic actions, but unless you want earphones, I'd probably get the rest of the instrument as a real acoustic too.
So I'd say, spend 2k on an upright, if the disadvantages don't matter - but if you go for a digital, spend 1k and put the rest towards a real grand or lessons. Check out the Gem RP800 as well as the yamaha / roland too.
