Idil Beret
on: October 10, 2005, 03:13:49 AM
Has anyone ever heard of her? I think she's one of the best female pianists (to add to the 'Best female pianists' thread). A few months ago I heard her interpretation of most of the Chopin Polonaises and the Grande Polonaise... :o shes really good! What do you think of her?

She is one of the best female pianist in the world, I agree. Furthermore, she can play a lot of pieces!! She recorded like the complete works of Chopin, Brahms and Rachmaninoff etc.........

Well, I'm a little embarrassed! I thought Idil Beret was a male pianist.  Wow, I'm even more excited now!  I agree, with you.  I  listened to Idil in Barnes&Noble a while back, and I remember thinking, "Wow, that's absolutely beautiful!"  At the time however, I was looking for female pianists to get a different take on some of the Chopin pieces I'm playing.   I have so many male pianist cd's.  Nothing against males mind you! But you know, it's just cool to get a female's take on a piece, just out of curiosity.  Especially if you are female!   I found another really good female though at the time.  Her name is Livia Rev.  She plays beautifully as well.  Wow, I will have to go purchase Idil Beret cd's now!

Thanks,

TC

That's like an insane amount of pieces!!!
How old is she now? She must be rather old in order to learn so many pieces.

she is very talented, but stretches her vagina FAR TOO WIDE.

she tries to take on that many pieces and theres no way they can all be great, she is hit and miss, generally quite decent, occasionally awesome, sometimes randomly crap.

When you say repertoire, do you mean all of the songs that she's memorized? Or all of the songs she's worked to concert level?

She probably is at least middle-aged.

they could, in fact, be all good! She might be on of those, suspiciously common, prodigies that learns and perfects pieces in a matter of days or weeks. Like ummm....what's his name......oh ya, Sergio Temp (i think it is). What is he like early twenties or somethin?

The above list is everything she's recorded and played in her life, not everything she can play right now.

Biret is hit-and-miss with me. She did Firebird and Ligeti well, but I have some issues with her Chopin. I have huge issues with her 1992 recording of Symphonie fantastique, but not very many with her 1979 recording os the same work.

brahmsian, is that list for real??  :o official? i mean, complete prelude & fugues, complete beethoven sonatas, complete beethoven symphony transcriptions, complete brahms piano solo works, complete chopin piano works, almost complete shumann piano works, complete beethoven concerti, bartok concerti, prokofieff concerti, rachmaninoff concerto, ravel concerti + much more! sounds hard to believe! maybe she'd included things she sightread through once or twice. amazing, nevertheless!

i've heard only her Chopin and i didn't like it at all. she's one of the worst Chopin performers i've ever heard.

but she has really impressive repertoire list. amazing-if she could perform all that pieces

btw its biret not beret  ;)

As far as I know this is everything she's played in her lifetime. I'm assuming she could probably pick up any one of these pieces and get it into decent shape fairly quickly.

Hamelin's rep is bigger though

That rep list is truly astounding, if it is real - truly astounding!  Right up there with Arrau and Fiorentino, and Katsaris...
Can I ask how you know that Hamelin's is bigger?  Do you have a list of his rep also?

Sorry... brain fart.

It's Ian Pace that has a bigger rep. I'll post it in another thread if you want- It would make this thread huge.
