In need of advice.

Hi,
I am new to the forum, but I have a problem and I was wondering if anyone could help.

I am looking for a music composition teacher and there aren't any near my location to receive lessons from. There are some in Tallahassee at Florida State University (FSU), which is an hour from where I live. I have e-mailed three of the compostion teachers there and only one has replied. The one that replied suggested I go to school in Virginia, which is way off from where I live. I would love to go off to college and study music, but I am about to start my pre-dental classes at a local college. I feel as if I am at a loss. Any suggestions? Perhaps a college text book...anything would be nice right now.

While you may learn some basic skills from a textbook, it cannot replace the feedback you'd get from a teacher.  Check with your local college and see if there are any classes you can take on the subject.  Sorry I can't be more help.
