Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata
on: August 19, 2003, 02:14:38 AM
How difficult is the full Pathetique sonata when compared with other Beethoven sonatas?  I would like to learn another Beethoven one, and am looking for a more challenging one than Pathetique.  I have been looking especially at the Hammerklavier.

You cant really rate the Pathetique as a whole- you must rate each mvmnt.
1 - 10, where    1= like Traumerie   10=Chopin's etudes

mvmnt 1= 6
mvmnt 2= 2.5
mvmnt 3= 5

I would stear clear of the Hammerklavier; try the Appassionata (it is my favourite after all) whose difficulty level is in between,

heres a couple more.. Tempest might be a good one... prob better than Appasionata for u... I would rank the big name sonatas in this order... Hardest to easiest Hammerklavier |Appasionata/Waldstein|Pastoral|Moonlight 3rd|Les Adieux|Tempest|Pathetique|rest of moonlight|
im thinking something like that.
