First Annual Piano Street Piano Competition
on: October 14, 2005, 03:11:21 PM
Greetings everyone,

Alot of you pianist know me as prodigy1220 and think I'm just an annoying person bothering people on threads. Truth is, I'm really not like that. Now for the important information. I'm hosting a piano competition on this thread and I need at least 10 competitors. I know this sounds lame but just try it please. The this works is if you want to participate post a reply stating that you want to participate. Qnce I get 10 competitors then each one of you has to sumbit the song you are playing, visual or audible but visual is recommended. Once you have done this I will the divide each competitor into their bracket and the competiton will begin.
I will also start a ranking post showing the ranks, which means like in tennis the number one pianst and so on. I know you guys are wondering how im going to judge. Well it will be on many things technique first of all, posture, if you have a visual and many other things. Also maybe you guys/gals are thinking im a little immature kid who his trying to start stuff on the computer, that's not true ,I am older and know alot about piano. ALso im not just some spam agent or whatever trapping ppl.

So please you guys just try this once and if you like the idea great and if you don't i wont be upset

Peace and blessings,

Prodigy1220

my apologies to anyone who thinks im annoying and immature i'll stop all the dumb comments....

One the judging part I will not be a cheap judge and judge like if some played arabesque perfectly versus a moonlight mvt3 i wont just say mvt3 won because its fast i judging the right way

I would, but I don't have a recording program on the computer, and the only decent piece I am working on right now will not be finished for 3 months.
Ahh llamas......is there anything they can't do?

I'd join but I don't have video... I have audio only recording at this point.. And the only piece I can somewhat play is the Arabesque (debussy, #1).

I'd be boring.

I don't have many SONG's to peform. I think you would all laugh listening to me sing lol. "Old grey mule she ain't what she used to be.. ain't what she use to be....." Pulls pants up.

And if it is going to be only 1 judge that is sooo losing! I hate competitions like that, you just have to suck up to the judge and you win. Or find out what music they like, give them what they want and win.

I don't how how good internet competition would be, it is really tough because a lot of the % mark would have to go towards the quality of the recording. I doubt many people have high class video recording tools, most would submit work with a webcam! So how on earth you can observe posture, technique etc is beyond me especially if you use one camera in one position the whole time.

You should give the requirements:
1) How much music do you require?  In terms of minutes, number of pieces, etc.
2) What style pieces are required?  Should participants choose a piece from Baroque, Classical, Romantic period? any Etudes, etc.?  Or just play whatever they like?
3) Is there an age limit?
4) Are you the only judge?  Or will you let a panel of pianist friends participate as judges with you?
5) Will the winner recieve anything for the effort?  A CD box set of Bernstein conducting the Beethoven Symphonies?  A subscription to Piano Quarterly?  An autographed picture of you?  Or is it all just for fun?  (You should probably just let it be for fun and for the learning experience of the participants...)

Be sure to think it all through and let everybody know what is involved...

Good Luck Prodigy!   :)

It could be fun with a competition here, but in that case i suggest something like this.

Put one person in charge who everyone sends their works to, that person then uploads them to the forum WITHOUT telling who played it.

Maybe we could agree about a piece to play, something of intermediate difficulty that many would be able to play?

Then we can either all vote, or maybe pick a certain amount of people who gets to vote.
If everyone gets to vote, thoose who played would probably vote for themself... doesn't matter if everyone does it though.

Maybe the winner, or top three even, could get a gold membership here?

I agree with others, having one judge is pointless. Wouldn't be a competition then.

how about Chopin Ballade no 1 in g minor??? About that level??? Having said that... if we had a set piece... people who haven't ever played the piece before will have to learn it like crazy just to enter

Sorry about the requirements people the song has to be no longer than 4 minutes. Any age can compete. and if you have an audio recording that's okay to because i know evryone doesn't have visual. also there are different level divisions.Moderate and hard. So please participate. Also you won't know who your competing i will just judge each tape and the winners will go to the next round. Ppl who aren't competing can help judge but that wont mean i will always go with your advice.  this competiton is also for fun and a ranking in piano street. so please ppl i need 10 competitors and remeber and recording counts as long as your really playing the song

Okay... 1) Its a PIECE, not a song... if you want songs, go to a voice forum. Its very hard to take you seriously if you dont use the right terminology.

2) i dont mean to be a pain, but if I'm going to submit PIECES to a random user, I need to know that the person who's going to be analysing my playing and work actually has a clue of what he's talking about, and just to make sure my playing isnt going to be criticised on an international forum by an ignorant wannabe (I'm not saying you are one, I just take what i do somewhat seriously so I'd rather be sure) ... So, please could you post a recording of yourself playing before the rest of us do. I think its fair.
I dont play an instrument, I play the piano.

First Danyalswan, don't compete if your going to be a pian. Second nothing is a stake so even if i was an ignorant wannabe  , which I AM NOT , it would'nt mean a dang thing to u . Third on the terminology whatt the heck with you danyalswan dont be such a stuck up what the heck does it it matter if i i say piece or song this whole competition thing was just for fun and now you r going to ruin thid whole thing just trying to prove nothing.

Sorry ppl i would send a recording but i dont have recording tools and i know ppl are saying that if prodigy doesnt have recording materials then he's just a fake , ignorant wannabe or some dumb guy trying to act like he knows about piano.

So ppl if u think im a fake im sorry very much but please can ppl just try this copmetition and if u think my judgement is bad give me advice not come on the thread and just try to make me look like a wannbe fake.

trust me please and dont let danyalswan control you a make you have second thoughts about me

Sorry,

hmm you're gonna judge people's pieces just on your own? i haven't been on any competition where is just one judge hahaa
and how old are you buddy? 13? 14?  i don't want to sound harsh but i don't see this whole thing as something serious...please don't get me wrong.
if its just for fun.. ;)

so ehh prodigy... i dont want to be annoying but.. nice idea to start a competition but it is easier if you set up some rules and how its going to work.. cause now youre just yelling something and you clearly havent thought of anything for your idea.
So work it out first and then come back...

sorry for my bad englisch.

perhaps if you select some pieces which can be entered and after create a poll so we can all vote on it.
